Two terms get used loosely, so it's worth being precise before going further. Worth separating out from all of the above: a different question entirely is whether low-GI eating affects insulin resistance, a metabolic marker, not a weight outcome. A 2025 meta-analysis of six trials found modestly lower HOMA-IR scores (a common insulin-resistance measure) on low-GI diets compared with high-GI diets in adults without diabetes (Yu et al., Frontiers in Nutrition, 2025). That's a real, separate finding, but a better insulin-resistance score is not the same thing as lost weight, and it shouldn't be read as one.
